5 Easy Ways to Improve Your Website

When designing your website, remember to avoid useless and confusing features, however “cool” they may seem to be. Usually, keeping things simple and consistent are the best way to go. Here are five easy ways to improve your website and make it more appealing to your visitors.

1. Put your logo on every page of your site, and in the same location. Usually, the best place to put it is in the upper left corner of the page. Remember to make your logo clickable, linking to the main page of your site (an exception is the logo of the main page itself, since you are already there). The benefit of doing so is that if your visitors get lost they can always come back to a familiar location.

2. Don’ t use a splash screen. Splash screens are seen in many websites before they give you access to the main page. They are usually slow-loading Flash animations that only delay and frustrate users. Remember, when your users want animation, they can turn on the TV. When they go to your website, they usually want information, and they want it fast. Some sites that use splash screens now provide a “Skip the Introduction” link, which most users click anyway, further validating the uselessness of flash screens.

3. Avoid using heavy pictures. They unnecessarily delay the page upload process. It is OK to use graphics, but they have to be optimized for the web. Use only .gif and .jpg formats. If the pictures are too heavy, try using some of the on-line graphic optimizing tools. They can reduce the weight of your pictures by more than 50% with no noticeable decrease in quality. Another thing you can do is to use thumbnails (clickable miniature versions of a picture). If a user is interested in the picture, he can click on the thumbnail and wait until the full size picture is displayed.

4. Try not to use animated banners or fancy icons. Just because you can is not a good reason to load up your site with neon-colored, flashing-and-popping, Vegas-style graphics. They usually take away from the content of your site and distract users. Plus, it has been demonstrated that less and less users click on banners every day.

5. Don’t make your pages too long. People don’t like to read from a screen. Instead, try to use the advantages of hyperlinks to present a summary of the topic or article, with a link to the full article in another page (similar to what newspapers do in their main page, with the added benefit for web users that it is easier to click on a link than to turn a page). If what you have to say is too long, break the discussion in several parts, each of them with a link to where your visitor can continue reading.

Remember, the goal is to give your visitors fast access to your information, through an interface (website) that is visually appealing and easy to use.

How to Get High Quality Inbound Links

The amount of quality inbound links to your site is one of the most important criteria used by search engines to rank your pages. Therefore, a well conducted link exchange campaign is one of the most effective Internet marketing strategies you can follow.

Remember that to search engines not all links are created equal: some links are more important and will have more value than others. The best links are those from high quality, highly ranked pages with a topic related to your site.

These are the steps you must follow for a successful link exchange campaign:

Create a Links page on your site, where you can place links to all the sites that link to you. Make sure to provide clear instructions on how to link to you, including the exact HTML code you want your link partners to use.

Download the Google toolbar: The Google toolbar is an addition to your Internet Explorer browser that will display the Page Rank of every page you visit. Page Rank is Google's way of telling you if a page is important and ranks well. If a page is related to the topic of your site and has a high Page Rank, you definetely want them to link to you. Place a link to them on your own site before contacting them.

Give them the URL of your links page, so they can see their link and make sure that their link information is OK. The fact that they see their link on your site will make them more inclined to reciprocate.

Give them the exact HTML code that they should use to link to you. By all means, include your main keywords in the link text since that will give you a boost with the search engines. For example, if you own a pet supplies store called Petmart, and assuming that your main keywords are "pet supply store", it is better to make the link text: Petmart - The Pet Supply Super Store, instead of just Petmart.

Keep track of what you're doing: maintain a spreadsheet where you can write down the name of each target site, their webmaster's email address, their URL, the URL of their links page, the date you first contacted them, and the date when they finally placed the link to your site. If you don't see your link after a couple of weeks, send them a reminder. If you don't get a response in another week, remove the link you originally placed on your site and move on. Another way to find suitable link partners is by finding out who is linking to your competitors.

You can use a free tool like the one in http://www.bcentral.com/products/link_finder.asp. Just type the URL of your competitor and you will get a list of sites that link to them. Write to the webmasters of those sites and ask for a link.

To truly know what network marketing really is you must know exactly was it isn’t first. Actually there is nothing illegal or dishonest about network marketing and it is not a pyramid scheme. Some time ago, I talked about the technique of writing articles to drive traffic to your site. What I want to talk about this time is how to become more proactive and effective in marketing your articles. While posting your articles on sites like ideamarketers.com or goarticles.com will allow ezine publishers to browse through their archives and find your articles, you can better target your efforts by submitting your articles directly to the best ezines out there.
These will be ezines that:

accept articles, deal with a closely related topic to what you have to offer, and have a large subscriber base. Usually, a large subscriber base is considered to be more than 100,000 subscribers. However, smaller ezines (20,000 subscribers or less) can often outperform their bigger counterparts, when they are highly focused on one topic and enjoy a loyal readership.

The question is, therefore, how to find those high-quality ezines that will accept your articles. The best place to look for them are ezine directories. Probably the best and most widely respected ezine directory is the Directory of Ezines, where you can find relevant information on almost 1000 high-quality ezines, most of which accept articles, reaching around 39 million readers. The Directory of Ezines charges a small yearly subscription fee. However, if you are serious about email marketing it is well worth it.

Another option is to subscribe to the Ezine Editor List, another useful resource that offers an up-to-date (updated monthly) list of ezine publishers that are actively interested in publishing your articles.

the number of words in your article (since some editors impose limits to the size of the articles they publish).
the URL of your archive of articles so that they can have immediate access to other articles you might have written.
Also, thank them for the opportunity to contact them and ask them to please let you know when the article is published.

Finally, don't forget to include your resource box, with the links to your page. Remember to using your preferred keywords in the phrase you use to link to your page, since it will help you rank higher with the search engines.

The use of html was the main coding for this program, and the web designers at the time were pretty much the only ones that knew it. Now that this new software is available to the general public, anyone is capable of making a blog. The moment blogger was released in 1999 it became a huge success with the public. Now people are not restricted on what kind of weblog they make, fast-forward to the year 2000 and people are making as many as 300-350 new blogs daily. There is actually a directory for all these blogs, and it contains as many as 5,500 entries. This is now a craze with over 750,000 blog users; this was not merely a passing trend obviously.
